"TALK TO BANKERS and some will tell you that when it comes to cyber-crime, they are second only to the military in terms of the strength of their defences"
As someone who works in tech for a big 5 bank this was the funniest statement I've seen in a decade.
- ozim 5y agoAll things being relative think if you see big bank doing things badly imagine that there are companies that are doing 10x worse. So they might be bad but there are companies that are worse and well just to remember when you are running away from zombies you don't have to be fastest it is good enough not to be the slowest :)
- Scoundreller 5y agoBig issue with big banks is endpoints: they need to be 100% accessible all the time. I get cranky when I have to call the branch (or walk in!!!) to handle something that the app/website couldn't. Meanwhile, HomeDepot blocks me when I visit their site from Europe.
- rkagerer 5y agoI've done work with big banks too and share your sentiment. In fairness some of the challenges I've observed are a result of integrating diverse systems inherited in corporate takeovers. e.g. Imagine unencrypted text files being the "lowest common denominator" to propogate account credentials. I always insist gaps like that are immediately ripped out and fortified, which is usually more a challenge of surfacing the risk to the right exec to get budget to re-engage an obscure vendor to rewrite some component nobody there understands anymore. As a consultant I think I sometimes have an easier time being heard than regular ops admins.
