Some Texans shocked to find their smart thermostats were raised remotely
- salawat 5y agoOther Texans laughing their butts off at the number of smart device owners who accepted internet connected devices without thinking through the implications of who might be purchase access through their IoT service provider. Schadenfreude is neither nice not ingratiating when it rears it's ugly head, nor, in fact, does it ultimately relieve the Cassandra complex when it comes to fruition.
- Nicksil 5y agoIn case I'm not the only one unfamiliar: The Cassandra metaphor (variously labeled the Cassandra "syndrome", "complex", "phenomenon", "predicament", "dilemma", "curse") relates to a person whose valid warnings or concerns are disbelieved by others. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cassandra_(metaphor) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cassandra_(metaphor)

- lightgreen 5y agoI love the modern use of the word “shocked” when used when something slightly unexpected happens. I didn’t take an umbrella and rain started, I was shocked! It is either inflation of meaning of the words, or infantilism of modern people. And I don’t know what is worse.
