If you don't want Google to use your WiFi for location tracking change your SSID
- Zhenya 5y agoWhat about just hiding your SSID?
- rolph 5y agohiding SSID isnt invisible, it just doesnt show a name in a wifi scan. you have to connect to it by name; meaning you have to know the name, odds are that 600gle has somehow kluged out that name. [also] "How do I opt my access point out of Google Location services?" >>To opt out, change the SSID (name) of your Wi-Fi access point (your wireless network name) so that it ends with "_nomap." For example, if your SSID is "12345," you would change it to "12345_nomap."<<
- hsbauauvhabzb 5y agoSo i have to mangle my ssid name and reconnect all my wifi devices because google asdumes opt in on privacy impacting location services? I’d email a fuck you to google complaints, but their customer support is literally non existent. Fitting, I guess.
- mikecoles 5y agoAny usefulness to the thought of decoying SSID/MAC combinations? Take a dump of wigle.net, randomly spray the SSID from the associated MAC, and create a smokescreen? Any better method than random selection of SSID? Enhance the subversion with varying the power levels to appear elsewhere? Directional antennas for confusing the whereabouts of the signal source? What are the countermeasures for such activities?
