You Car's Privacy Data May Not Be All That Private
- zbrozek 5y agoDoesn't much surprise me, and is largely why I currently own only older cars. It'll be a problem when I want to get an EV and all the offerings come with hostile features like this. It's televisions all over again.
- mr337 5y ago100% agree. EVs are almost superior in every other way but the data collections are getting annoying. EVs are fast, but the last thing I want is to get an automated speeding ticket due to GPS data that was collected by big brother.
- m463 5y agoSome people don't believe it will get to this, but I think it will - through insurance. There are hints of this (well, actually blaring warnings) such as this article: https://electrek.co/2021/06/07/tesla-driver-safety-rating-based-driving-behaviors-autopilot-use/ https://electrek.co/2021/06/07/tesla-driver-safety-rating-ba... > Here are the factors that Tesla will be tracking to determine your safety rating: > ABS Activation – Number of times ABS is activated > Hours Driven – Average daily driving time > Forced Autopilot Disengagements – Number of times Autopilot is disabled due to ignored alerts > Forward Collision Warnings – Number of times car detects a potential forward collision > Unsafe Following Time – Portion of time spent at an unsafe following distance > Intensity of Acceleration and Braking – Speed variance due to extreme acceleration and braking. Shown on a scale from 0-10 as measured against Tesla’s internal fleet.
