- akiselev 5y agoIt's true in spirit, if not the letter. Oil pipelines are useless for other things until they're cleaned and repurposed which isn't a cheap process.
- ikr678 5y agoGetting the pipeline route established is a pretty significant upfront cost. Easements, land purchases, agreements with all the various stakeholders are expensive. Even not reusing the existing oil pipeline, being able to repupose the corridor and corridor access points to lay a natural gas pipe or some other linear infrastructure is a pretty big deal.
- jeltz 5y agoRail is also a linear infrastructure which can be used to put fiber in the ground cheaply.
- minsc__and__boo 5y agoIs there really demand for laying fiber between Hardisty Canada and Nebraska?
- dd36 5y agor/conservative and r/conspiracy are popular.
- ashtonkem 5y agoAssuming you happen to have one of those products that need to move in the exact same place as oil once did, sure. But a lot of these pipelines go between wells and refineries or docks, a path useless for anything but oil.
