Valid points:
- The four-hour work week is a fantasy
- Comfortable lifestyles are generally only possible when other people are doing the hard work on your behalf, particularly service industry workers
Dubious points:
- The US dollar is strong in impoverished countries due to colonialism (there may be some truth to this, but there are many other factors)
- "Tax breaks" (no definition provided) never create jobs
- Universal basic income is achievable if we "make everyone pay their fair share" (depends on how big the cheques are. $100/month, or $2,500/month?)
- randomopining 5y agoUSD is strong because it's stable and used to facilitate transactions for international trade. Countries banking systems hold liquidity in USD or USD denominated bonds. Nothing to do with colonialism.
- jimbokun 5y agoRight, it's more an artifact of US being the last major economy standing after WWII.
- randomopining 5y agoYeah that, plus obviously the combination of innovation, natural resources, and trade ties to most of the productive nations. Despite the detractors, anarchists, and anti-US sentiment. The US was the glue that held together the world from 1945-now -- promoting a generally rules based order and peaceful trade that propelled us to a new level of world wealth.
