YouTube had to crack down on all kinds of videos because of some laws that congress passed under the pretense of "protecting children". For many content creators it's easier to mark your video as age-restricted than to try and comply with child-friendly guidelines. This is also why so many videos now disable the comments section.
- loloquwowndueo 5y agoSeeing the incredibly inappropriate content the algorithm (tm) starts suggesting to actual children (I see you like numberblocks, maybe you'll enjoy this fake video of numberblocks killing each other and swearing or this extremely repetitive and epilepsy-inducing flashing video with a couple of numberblocks characters) it’s clear to me they don’t give a crap and just do the bare minimum to tick some legalese checkbox in some compliance form somewhere.
- pbhjpbhj 5y agoThat sounds fine to me; child friendly should mean 'beneficial to children' or at least designed for children and not 'no searching nor nudity [nor extreme violence]'.
- stjohnswarts 5y agoYeah this definitely a government overreach thing rather than google's fault. Their implementation of the policy is kind of awful I suppose though.
