Update to GCC copyright assignment policy
- jmclnx 5y agoOK, what does this mean ? Will there be portions of gcc NOT under GPL v3 ?
- rurban 5y agoIt means that they don't expect an upgrade to a potential GPL v4, which is unrealistic. For a steady GPL v3 they don't need FSF assignments, but it would not allow a future license change.
- simcop2387 5y agoNope, they're still requiring the "or at your choice a later version" part of the GPLv3 that they're using. This would allow them to start a switch over to GPLv4 by changing the parts that they do control and effectively making the whole project GPLv4 regardless. That does mean that the pieces that they don't control could still be used separately from the project as GPLv3 but that's almost certainly not a big issue. edit: direct statement of this from the mailing list discussion, https://gcc.gnu.org/pipermail/gcc/2021-June/236194.html https://gcc.gnu.org/pipermail/gcc/2021-June/236194.html
