No, I'm an American disappointed in the ignorance of my countrymen. My congressperson has been in office consecutively since 1997 with no serious challenges, and I couldn't name a single thing she's done for me in that time.
- seanmcdirmid 5y agoThat’s fine. I’ll tel you how it works: in the USA, almost anyone can run for congress, there are primaries to sort out the top contenders for a general election. Congress people get “unelected” all the time which is how the house changes parties every so often. In China, you are given a list of 41 names and have to select 40 of them, that one not being picked not getting a seat. Ironically enough, Xi was in that position before but his status as a princeling meant he still got a seat anyways.
- satonakamoto 5y agoHello, you are given alist of 4 names and have to select 1 of them. This happened 2020 in USA. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_United_States_presidential_election#Nominations https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_United_States_presidentia... Different levels have different filtering rules, it is impossible for a random person to run for mayor, governor. Likewise, everyone in China can run for village or community people's representative, and those elected can run in municipal, then provincial and national elections. Of course, higher-level representatives need to be vetted for their backgrounds, whether they are corrupt, whether they have committed crimes, etc. In the field of political participation, the West is no more freedom than the East, only different filtering rules. These Chinese election systems, should be translated to you by your English-speaking world who knows Chinese, but your media (or yourselves) never take the initiative to go deeper, only read those hundreds of words of propaganda news. Shame on you.
