Is there such a thing as flags of convenience for planes?
- allendoerfer 5y agoEU planes can still fly there and back to the EU.
- kofejnik 5y ago>> At a meeting in Brussels, the leaders of the 27 member states also told EU airlines not to fly over Belarus, and promised further economic sanctions.

- allendoerfer 5y agoThey told them to, but airlines are free to do whatever they want.
- matkoniecz 5y agoObviously, the next step is to make it illegal to fly over Belarus. Or prosecute airlines for endangering pasengers by doing this. Or refuse to approve any flights with flightpath in Belarusian airspace.
- luch 5y agoAir France, Lufthansa, airBaltic & SAS already said they would not fly over belarus anymore
- chippiewill 5y agoPossibly, I think it will depend on how individual countries implement the directive. I think irrespective of that if airlines ignore such a directive then they'll be exposing themselves to a significant amount of liability if something happens again (i.e. the airline will be made to pay out damages and their insurance probably won't cover it).
- capableweb 5y agoSure, but since the EU nor the companies within is trying to emulate the Great Land of Freedom, companies won't fly there if most of the EU leaders just agreed that they shouldn't. The risk of going against recommended action and getting penalties themselves is much higher than any potential benefits of continue doing it.
- srg0 5y agonot to fly over Belarus != not to fly to Belarus
- kofejnik 5y agotrue, tho it's rather hard to fly to Belarus without flying over it as well
- intricatedetail 5y agoYes. That plane was registered in Poland.
