Star Trek Has Arrived on Netflix as Promised
- maeon3 15y ago'Seven of nine' is my favorite character. Part woman, part flawless machine. There need to be more women out in the real world like her. Seven of Nine, Tertiary Adjunct of Unimatrix Zero-One.
- rjbond3rd 15y agoBeing fit is a worthy goal for everyone. However, I regret to report that the guys are not keeping their end of the bargain (myself included). I think you will have more luck with the ladies if you don't expect them to be sexy robots, and likewise, they should not expect you to be the medical hologram, or Data.
- zdw 15y agoAnd a bunch of other stuff has expired: http://feedfliks.com/streaming http://feedfliks.com/streaming I got burned by this, watching a multi-season TV series and as of 7/1, it was no longer available. This was not popular with the rest of the household.
- HaloZero 15y agoGlad I finished Pushing Daisies before it was removed
- mjurek 15y agoHopefully it comes back :(
- ck2 15y agoWow I was wondering where some stuff went from my "recently watched". Thanks for that link, very helpful.
- cageface 15y agoThis can be really annoying. Huge chunks of the BBC catalog disappeared from my queue. At current subscription prices it's easy to shrug it off but the content providers aren't making any friends this way.
- pasbesoin 15y agoYes, this is very annoying. One reason I pay for Netflix is that I don't like to be gamed by other distribution channels. Netflix should realize that the gaming that this content involves reflects on THEM, even when it is at the rightsholders' initiative/insistance. Boo. (I recently watched halfway through something, then got busy for a couple of weeks. I returned to find I could no longer stream the rest. At a minimum, if there is an expiration date, it should be there prominently on the title's page, so that the viewer is aware of this going in. Netflix, you need to reconsider who your customers are. If it's big media, just let me know and I'll drop my subscription.
- seldo 15y agoI've been burning my way through TNG all weekend. I never really got a chance to watch it when I was a kid (the rest of the family always vetoed my desire to watch "that show with the guy with the brains outside of his head"). Now I'm watching and laughing at the first instances of the now-cliché episode types: "holodeck malfunction", "alien culture forces crewmember into single combat", "Q does arbitrary random thing", "Wesley gets his ego stroked". They're classics. I can't wait for ToS to arrive :-)
- zephjc 15y agoalien culture forces crewmember into single combat Sounds like you're watching season 1 lol. TNG didn't really pick up until about half way through season 2. At any rate, TOS is on there already - everything but DS9 is (DS9 arrives in October, IIRC)
- seldo 15y agoOh, wow, it's turned up since the last time I checked :-p Neat!
- duke_sam 15y agoSo much better in fact that they are the trope namer for a series suddenly getting better: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/GrowingTheBeard http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/GrowingTheBeard
- mjurek 15y agoI really like Voyager over TNG honestly but TNG is still a great series.
- qohen 15y ago> They're classics. I can't wait for ToS to arrive :-) All 79 episodes of ST:ToS are available at this page on startrek.com (a CBS site): http://www.startrek.com/videos/star-trek-the-original-series/all/full/episode http://www.startrek.com/videos/star-trek-the-original-series...
- zephjc 15y agoBabylon 5 disappeared, which pissed me off (glad I've seen it when it came out, but still). Nice to watch so much Trek when I want though!
- HaloZero 15y agoI wish Netflix was more transparent about when things are going to be removed and added on Netflix (more so the removal) especially if movies are on your Instant Queue.
- elq 15y agoThere are several reasons Netflix isn't more transparent: 1) Contract windows are of deep interest to competitors. 2) Contracts are frequently re-negotiated before they end.
- HaloZero 15y agoI think having something like, oh that was on my instant queue or now it's gone. Or having a series you're watching be taken off in the middle is way worse. They could at least warn people about those.
- elq 15y agoNetflix does that - http://i.imgur.com/OHu8n.jpg http://i.imgur.com/OHu8n.jpg
- fjarlq 15y agoAgreed. At least they make the info available via API; for example, Instantwatcher: http://instantwatcher.com/titles/169810 http://instantwatcher.com/titles/169810
- jamesgagan 15y agoWishing this was available on Netflix Canada. I recently got all 7 seasons of DS9 from Amazon, but so far I have to say it's not very good...getting better but the stories are just rehashes and many of the characters are quite wooden. Not sure if I'm gonna get through all 176 episodes - hoping it gets better when Worf arrives!
- nkassis 15y agoKeep going it gets better as of 3rd or 4th season. The magnificient seven ferengi (not sure if that's the correct title. In it they want to save quarks mom) episode is the funniest ST episode of all times.
- jamesgagan 15y agoSomething to look forward to! Actually so far Quark is the most well acted character - Armin Shimerman is pretty good.
- zephjc 15y agoArmin Shimerman coauthored a really good DS9 book, The 34th Rule, worth reading when you get a chance.
- sehugg 15y agoHopefully the TOS episodes are the 2006 remastered-for-HD versions. They look magnificent scanned from the original 35 mm film. I understand TNG was shot on film but composited digitally in SD, so HD-quality episodes are much more difficult.
- Gormo 15y agoI haven't watched the new TOS episodes - are they simply remastered from the original film, or did they also add new CGI, a la Lucas's re-releases?
- CrazedGeek 15y agoThey replaced certain CGI, but IIRC you can switch back to the originals on the DVD and Blu-Ray releases. Doubt you can on Netflix, though.
- mattdeboard 15y agoDo NOT click links on that site. Lots of pop-up garbage.
- mjurek 15y agowhat? i think you are mistaken.
- mattdeboard 15y agoThe links below the story. Looking at them now I guess I could infer they're ads, but I clicked on them and it was one of those "keep clicking to get to the story" rabbit holes.
- gte910h 15y agoStuff likes this really makes me want national mandatory licensing for rebroadcast of TV at a per household rate.

- comice 15y agoI downloaded a torrent of TNG. It was easy to do, high enough quality, can't be revoked and you know, was actually available to me years ago. I'd happily have paid some money for them if I could (though I admittedly wouldn't tolerate the terms of netflix myself). The dvds are £122 for the full set on Amazon - that's £0.69 per episode. Slightly pricey imo. I'd happily have paid £0.30 per episode though. Certainly not interested in paying £122 up front (I didn't know if I'd actually get through them all!) and I dislike having the actual physical dvds.
- cageface 15y agoWhat makes you feel entitled to set an arbitrary price and then violate the copyright if the publisher doesn't meet that price? Would you be equally sanguine about someone enjoying the fruits of your work at their arbitrary price?
- ugh 15y agoWhat makes him feel entitled is that he can do it without fearing retribution. It’s basically extortion. Gimme for $0.30 or I’m just not gonna pay anything and you try and catch me. I’m always a bit confused, though, about Americans being so willing to torrent. I thought the costs if you are caught are crippling in the US – basically life destroying? I don’t think I would want to risk that but maybe I’m just misinformed.
- Jach 15y agoI assume most people feel that p(getting caught) is small enough to eliminate most of the negative utility that a conviction would carry in their expected utility calculations. What I'd like to see tested in court: we can record things on t.v. with a VCR for a private version, right? Could we record what Netflix displays, in this case TNG? Is this any different from torrenting a copy of the content, instead of recording, if you have a Netflix subscription?
- comice 15y agoI don't feel entitled at all. I'm just able to. I was just expressing how I feel about the situation. Even though it's trivially easy for me to get it for free, I'd be willing to pay for it - I personally find that interesting.
- Hominem 15y agoSomething kind of odd going on with TNG though. My blue ray/netflix player is missing most of season 6 and 7. Hope they work by time I get that far.
- mikey_p 15y agoNoticing that on our TiVo as well. It drops off almost all of season 5, 6, and 7, with only 1-2 episodes from each for a total of 100 episodes total. Last I checked the TiVo guide wasn't updated with the info on Netflix availability, so I couldn't access them that way either. Was really looking forward to switching to this over the recorded from TV version that WGN plays at 2 am or whenever, but they were just started season 5.
- cheez 15y agoNot. In. Canada. GRRR.
- drinian 15y agoUnfortunately, they left out part two of the TOS episode "The Menagerie." And I think I spotted a misspelling or two in the titles. Of all the titles to get wrong, this is a big one.
