Is it really worse it though? Today (and for a number of years now) RAM is cheap enough to stuff even low-end laptops with multiple GiB. Unless you have a very fast storage subsystem, hibernating and restoring from the frozen image takes an awful long time. These days many applications, including web browsers (which for many is the only application they ever need), offer to restore the last state, hence you get mostly the same benefit (plus garbage collection).
- jjeaff 6y agoI use hibernation a lot. I do have really fast storage. (two nvme drives running in raid 0) So it takes maybe 20 seconds to come out of hibernation with windows 10. Which is about twice what a cold boot up takes. But it is usually worth it to not have to get everything open again with the correct files open. And these days, I have to leave my desk pretty often so I have it set to hibernate after 30 minutes of inactivity. My pc idles at 80 watts, so it saves a decent amount of energy to hibernate often.

- Dylan16807 6y agoVery fast storage has also gotten cheap. If you have 16GB of RAM, a $70 Samsung 980 can write your hibernation data in 6 seconds or less.
