Germany restricts use of AstraZeneca vaccine to over 60s in most cases
- Parsons568 6y agoWhat exactly is bad in that vaccine that makes it safe only for the old and frail? https://www.igarageband.net/ https://www.igarageband.net/
- ysleepy 6y agoThe article has a whole section on it. There have been, again, increased cases of sinusvein thrombosis in younger people, almost all young women, 9 died. Not so in older people.
- weinzierl 6y ago> "There have been, again, increased cases of sinusvein thrombosis in younger people, almost all young women, 9 died. Not so in older people." Given how hard sinusvein thrombosis is to diagnose, how similar its symptoms are to a stroke and that strokes are more common in older people I would at least be careful with the conclusion that its safe for the elderly.
- lofi_lory 6y agoRisk of thrombosis decreases past a certain age. Young women got the highest risk. This seems to be bound to your individual thrombosis risk.
- dx034 6y agoCertainly a bold move. After first restricting it to only younger people because of a lack of study data, then reversing that and now another restriction with the opposite effect. But as the agency said, while the move might damage the image of Covid vaccinations for some people, they acted on the data available to them at all times. Better that way than not updating guidelines for political reasons.
- G3rn0ti 6y agoI wonder if there is any data about the vaccine's safety from UK? Isn't UK vaccinating its whole population using AZ exclusivly?
- rstarast 6y agoUK started in December with Pfizer/Biontech, AZ since roughly 2021 I believe. EDIT: removing link to lifesitenews com article, don't want to give them traffic.
- SpicyLemonZest 6y agoThe UK has identified basically the same pattern (https://www.google.com/amp/s/mobile.reuters.com/article/amp/idUSKBN2BA1UM https://www.google.com/amp/s/mobile.reuters.com/article/amp/...), but they don’t think the clots are an important problem because they’re so rare.
- geonic 6y ago> One of the five reported cases was fatal, MHRA Vaccine Safety Lead Philip Bryan said, adding that the cases were all among men aged between 19 and 59. This is weird. In Germany almost all of the cases were women.
- lofi_lory 6y agoI think in Germany it was biased towards health care workers, who are more likely to be women. But this is interesting of course, since there are speculations about young women's baseline increased thrombosis risk weighing in on the stats. I think this makes it much more likely to be an actual problem with the vaccine. Either way, the numbers don't justify the restrictions. People should be allowed to make an educated choice for themselves.
- _Microft 6y agoThese cases have only observed in younger people and also the risk that Covid poses increases with age. So elderly people who are also at increased risk of severe Covid cases could still take advantage of it (and be better off regarding risk in a sense).
- sudosysgen 6y agoCanada did the same, but for 55+, at least temporarily.
