Elon Musk making the move to Texas specifically to avoid the regulation that would have helped stop this from happening, would be kicking himself right now if he was in any way affected by this or consistent in his beliefs.
- eclat 6y agoIs he against regulation to keep power plants working in winter?
- A12-B 6y agoI am for evidence-based regulation, not picking and choosing which regulation is good or bad based on your own broken philosophy, or whether it is good for your business.
- AmericanChopper 6y agoThe evidence would suggest the California approach to regulation also fails to keep the power on.

- josefx 6y agoIs he against regulations that he benefits from? Probably not. Would he be against a regulation that counted his factories as non essential in case the grid needs to be relieved? Yes.
- diveanon 6y agoElon Musk is another Trump in the making. Only difference is Elon Musk is smart enough not to foot gun himself when he actually asserts his power.
- simonh 6y ago"Still not pointy enough. Oh, and make the next one gold. I wonder if rhinestones would work for heat shielding - check it out."
- 29athrowaway 6y agoHe was not born in America so he cannot be a president.
- dragonwriter 6y agoYou don't have to be born in America to be President, but you do need to be a natural-born citizen. Of course, the idea of amending the Constitution to remove that requirement to clear the path for a particular candidate (not that long ago, Arnold Schwarzenegger was mentioned) has come up before; current restrictions won't necessarily apply indefinitely into the future.
- pbhjpbhj 6y agoIs your distinction that it has to be USA territories - colonies like Guam, Puerto Rico? - but not necessarily USA proper, so military bases and consulates count (?) but could be termed 'outside USA' or is something else going on here?
- adwww 6y agoYes, but also includes a person born abroad to parents who are United States citizens.
- meepmorp 6y agoIirc, when John McCain (born in Panama) was running against Obama, Congress passed legislation clarifying that people born on military bases abroad still counted as natural born citizens for electoral purposes.

- cwkoss 6y agoMaybe he'll try to sell grid-tied batteries to TX
- commandlinefan 6y ago> to avoid the regulation that would have helped stop this Actually it was the regulators themselves who were responsible: the Public Utility Commission of Texas - the government organization that is explicitly set up to prohibit price gouging - deliberately set the price to the highest possible price for the entirety of the storm.
