Covid-19: Captain Sir Tom Moore dies with coronavirus
- NDizzle 6y ago"dies with". Cause of death is not listed in this article. I'm guessing pneumonia, but that's not headline worthy. Anyways, RIP. 100 is a great run. I hope to make it there too.
- llimos 6y agoThe UK records any "dies with" as "dies of" when it comes to COVID-19. This is one of the problems with the data.
- yread 6y agoYou know pneumonia is not a disease but a symptom, an inflamation of the lungs, right? And that covid causes pneumonia, right?
- lukeramsden 6y agoAnd you know that he "caught" Covid-19 _weeks_ after starting medication to treat pneumonia, which is why he wasn't vaccinated despite being high-risk, right?
- yread 6y agoWell, he had the original pneumonia for weeks and it hasn't killed him, catches Covid and dies in 3 days. Must have been a coincidence. /s
- lurquer 6y agoNot to mention the fact that the nurses and doctors are exhausted from treating Covid cases. Even if he hadn’t caught the virus, there’s a good chance the diminished quality of care he received from the overburdened medical professionals contributed to his death. Thus, it’s definitely fair to list Covid as the cause of death. Indeed, it’s obvious and not fairly deniable that but for Covid, all 100-year olds hospitalized with pneumonia would have every reason to think they would live for several more decades.
- spants 6y agoHe was already in hospital with pneumonia and then caught Covid (in hospital?).
- soneil 6y agoThat's a much-abused talking point. Freddy Mercury died of Pneumonia, but that doesn't really tell the whole story, does it. It's like blaming the tree in a car crash. To put it plain and simple, his age put him in the highest risk bracket, his fame made him over-exposed, and he travelled abroad for Christmas just to cap it off. I don't want to sound like I'm gloating, I wouldn't want to wish anyone ill. But realistically he was at the age where the first thing to come along is enough. And it was. Fair play to him, 100 years well spent.

- collyw 6y agoI saw other article mentioning pneumonia
- mellosouls 6y agoA real inspiration, and in a time where prattling celebrities demand praise and are revered for the most trivial things he always seemed so sweetly modest and humbled by all the attention. - mrlonglong 6y agoThere's a petition to Parliament asking for a state funeral for this chap. I've signed it. He deserves the best send off. 300k signed up today.
