Show HN: Bunklist – Collect and discover useful websites through lists
- supernano9 6y agoOP here, I like to collect interesting and useful websites to visit later. Browser bookmarks are cool but they quickly get disorganized and I forgot the folder where I have bookmarked the website. So, I built Bunklist to collect my favourite websites into simple lists for my personal use and also to share it with my friends and team. If you are looking for something to organize your bookmarks, give Bunklist a try and let me know your thoughts about it. You can set your list to be public or private, Public lists are discovered by other users, they can add comments, like, bookmark, or save websites into their list using the “Bunk it” button . I have also made a “Shuffle”, an alternative to StumbleUpon to discover one random website from public lists. Bunklist is completely free to use & I am looking for your feedback and suggestions to improve our product.
- jy14898 6y agoI've used your contact form to let you know about an exploit with private lists
- supernano9 6y agoHi, thanks for telling me. I have fixed it :)
- mkl 6y agoAre you aware that "bunk" means "nonsense" [1] or "defective" [2]? [1] https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/bunk https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/bunk [2] https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/bunk#Adjective https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/bunk#Adjective
- fooblat 6y agoIndeed, my first reaction was that this would be a list of sites to avoid.
- supernano9 6y agoNo, I thought "bunk" means bed bunker or bunk as in pile something over one another.
- pmiller2 6y agoWell, it does also mean that, but, in this context, that's not what came to mind when I saw it.
- supernano9 6y agoI guess, you're right. I am not sure if it's a good idea to change the name. What do you think?
- gala8y 6y agoI think it is a good idea to change name.
- coolgeek 6y agoI don't think it's a big deal. But bunker list would avoid this particular misinterpretation btw, I like the idea. Or I think I do, because I'm not signing up before I get a chance to test it. This is a very common - and very legitimate - complaint on Show HN posts. You need to give people a chance to work with it - play around a little - before they sign up Good luck!
- pmiller2 6y agoI would.
- LegendaryR3D 6y agoI love the clean design and responsiveness of the website. Might I suggest adding 'keywords' to the shuffle feature to make it more focused.
- supernano9 6y agoThis is a nice suggestion. Thanks for that. Added in our to-do list.
- mraza007 6y agoLove the product. I was looking for something similar where I can organize my bookmarks into lists. Currently I use pocket and use their tagging feature
- supernano9 6y agoThank you.
- flippyhead 6y agoGreat, I have always wanted something like this. The part I wanted to capture was the process of easily sharing links with specific people or groups of people. I find I have a set of friends to whom I often want to share some web link and always wished I could structure this better, have history, comments etc. It's a really common type of communication I have with friends; at least for me
- supernano9 6y agoHi, thank you. I am glad you liked it. Let me know you have want to add any other features.
- Brendinooo 6y agoThis is one of those ideas that seems really obvious in hindsight, which probably means it's a great idea. Nice work!
- supernano9 6y agoThank you, I am glad you liked it :)
- defanor 6y agoAre you familiar with web directories (DMOZ [1] and others [2])? This looks like one, and perhaps others can be used to borrow ideas (hierarchical structure, for instrance) for future development. - wiml 6y agoRelatedly, looks like someone is trying once again to resurrect del.icio.us http://del.icio.us/ http://del.icio.us/
- gala8y 6y agoI really wish all that data to come back online. Now I wonder how much of this web it was pointing to already decayed... Also... Del.icio.us was the one and only app that got tagging 100% right.
- smusamashah 6y agoIt didn't get the tagging right at all. On my bookmarks I somehow ended up with hundreds of tags in total, making tags effectively useless. I made very rough tool to just bulk delete delicious tags. Tags were useful but a pain to manage
- supernano9 6y agoWhat do you think ideal tagging should be like in a websites similar to del.icio.us?
- smusamashah 6y agoThere should be some fuzziness probably. My tags were in hundreds because I imported bookmarks. Many tags were essentially same with an 's' I remember.

- nevster 6y agoWhat's old is new again! Who can name all the previous incarnations of this idea?
- ssilver 6y agoi'm working on this idea, too. lol. just posted it this morning: https://linkedli.st/ https://linkedli.st/
- supernano9 6y agohey, this looks amazing.
- ogre_codes 6y agoI was just thinking maybe next someone is going to post about webrings!
- tsjq 6y agoIs this kinda like that lovely de.icio.us ?
- supernano9 6y agoUnlike del.icio.us, here you'll have to save website in a list and the lists are tagged instead of website. Kind of your collection of favorite websites. Users can discover public lists, add comment, or like a list to show appreciation. If you are looking to just browse websites like del.icio.us, we have made a page "Trending Websites" where we fetch recently posted websites from the public lists. Direct link to Trending page - https://bunklist.com/websites https://bunklist.com/websites
- simplecto 6y agoWell done. I’ve added this to my own bookmarking tool. :-) https://www.curabase.com/org/curabase/bookmark-managers https://www.curabase.com/org/curabase/bookmark-managers Lots of room for multiple winners in this space because there are so many ways to solve niche use cases. best of luck!
- supernano9 6y agoThanks a lot :)
