From the sounds of it, the corellium guys and Marcan are being a bit more cooperative now. Also, it sounds like much of the Corellium code is going to be pushed up to the main line so there won't be 2 Linux M1 branches for long.
This hopefully means more of the efforts going into Marcan's projects can be spent on higher lever things like getting the GPU, Power management and other important bits working well.
- solarkraft 6y ago> You should also consider supporting the work being done by the folks over at Asahi Linux. This seems like quite a nice gesture after the bit of drama that apparently happened (and made corellium look bad, imo). I hope that eventually they're not going to duplicates effort as much as they likely are now, but then again it seems like Marcan thinks that their approach (with "insider knowledge") is an inherent risk to the project's legality. With or without Corellium Asahi will eventually get there, though, and they're pretty certainly the ones who will make the GPU work (thanks to the amazing Alyssa Rosenzweig of Panfrost fame).
- ballenf 6y agoI think the risk is more reputational for orgs wanting to use the Asahi project while not souring relations with Apple.
- starkruzr 6y agois there any actual hope for the GPU? is it based on any architecture for which there already exist Linux drivers?
- ogre_codes 6y agoThey managed it with Nvidia, granted it took years and it's still not as good as the proprietary drivers, but it's passable for dev work.
- Teknoman117 6y agoI thought the main issue with nouveau at this point was that Nvidia is locking the open drivers out switching the GPU into the performance power states? No amount of optimization is going to be able to get around that.
