I prefer matrix, but it doesn't help me if the people I want to talk to don't. Oh, look at this! A project which bridges the clients others use to a client I would like to use!
- olah_1 6y agoIt’s not difficult to switch friends to a new messenger if the UX is genuinely better. A great example is Signal. They invested quite a lot into UX in the last year and it paid off.
- acct776 6y agoYou have excellent friends. This approach is preferred, but regularly impossible for people with average contacts.
- olah_1 6y agoI can only convince friends that I have influence with. That means that I'm already in regular communication with them and an active member of the conversation. Casually bring up some shortcomings about the current messenger and see if others agree. Then don't jump the gun on new messengers. If it's "good enough", it's usually not ready to invite others. When it is "awesome" is when it's the right time. For example, I only got my friends on Signal after they added user mentions, stickers, and fixed link previews.
