“Nearly overthrow the government” is a bit of an exaggeration.

  “Nearly alter the executive succession contrary to the election results by application of violence to high government officials”, would be more technically accurate. The photos/videos of people milling about after members and staffers narrowly escaped those in the crowd clearly intending violence combined with a rather intense propaganda effort aimed at minimizing the autocoup attempt have effectively spread a false narrative of the attack, though.
