Pandora. No ads, higher quality audio. I do it because I appreciate what I get from the site, same way I buy the Economist even though I can read its articles online for free.
- RyanKearney 15y agoGrooveshark. No ads, unlimited skips, listen to any song you want.
- ChrisLTD 15y agoI want to like Grooveshark, but the fractured state of their library is an ongoing pain. I like to queue up entire albums, but I usually have to spend a few minutes finding all the songs via search first, then I have to put them in the proper order.
- foresterh 15y agoRhapsody. No ads, access to tons of stuff, on demand. You have the choice of picking and choosing songs, or just playing on a radio (Pandora style). And I think it's the same price as Pandora's ad-free service (which makes me wonder why people pay for Pandora?)
- lamy 15y agoPandora One is $36 a year, Rhapsody is $9.99 a month. Big difference there.
- mtogo 15y agoPandora is radio, you have no control over what song is playing aside from being able to switch stations and being able to skip (no scrubbing) a few (5 iirc?) songs a day. Rhapsody, on the other hand, lets you play any song from their library at any time you want. You can skip, go back, scrub, and play songs/albums/artists/playlists just as if you owned the songs (you can actually even download the songs and drop them on any MP3 player if you get the mobile plan). MAJOR difference in the service they provide.
- lhnn 15y agoPandora is 6 skips an hour ( More for Pandora One I think), and thumb-downing a song eliminates in on that station. I can also say I'm tired of a song, which shelves it on that station for 30 days.
- ben1040 15y agoPandora is 6 skips an hour ( More for Pandora One I think) If you pay for Pandora, you get six skips per hour per station. Free users get six skips per hour, across all stations.
- lamy 15y agoAgreed. There is a major difference in the service that is provided. As usual, you get what you pay for.
- shazow 15y agoI pay for Pandora, too. I can't quantify it but Pandora does a much better job at playing music I enjoy in the context of the previous music it played and I enjoyed. There will be times when it hits streaks of an hour of non-stop amazing music song after song (with only a few that I've heard before). Other services I've tried are not much better than a genre on shuffle.
- joezydeco 15y agoCould it be because Pandora actually uses humans to categorize the music? http://www.fastcompany.com/1718527/pandora-ipo-tim-westergren http://www.fastcompany.com/1718527/pandora-ipo-tim-westergre...
- tallanvor 15y agoSpotify if you're not in the US.
