Fontedit – bitmap font editor tool
- app4soft 6y agoQuote from Fontedit dev: > Update, November 2020 > This is still a useful tool 10 years on! > I've recently hosted the source code on Github.[0] > I've also updated the code. It now runs on Python 3 (tested 3.8.5) and uses the pygobject framework (package python3-gi on Ubuntu) so it should run happily on Ubuntu 20.04 and any other modern system. There's also a new drag draw mode to speed things up a bit! JFTR, There is also similar Qt-based bitmap font editor — FontEdit.[1,2] [0] https://github.com/hairymnstr/fontedit https://github.com/hairymnstr/fontedit [1] https://kapusta.cc/2020/03/20/fontedit/ https://kapusta.cc/2020/03/20/fontedit/ [2] https://github.com/ayoy/fontedit https://github.com/ayoy/fontedit
- joezydeco 6y agoIf you need to do a large amount of bitmapped font work and don't have a lot of time, or you want to add Unicode ranges, or you need antialising, or your target has a different endianness, I'd recommend BitFontCreator. http://www.iseasoft.com/bitfontcreator.html http://www.iseasoft.com/bitfontcreator.html You can go from TTF to C code in a few minutes. Just make sure your licenses are clear for the fonts <wink>.
- app4soft 6y ago> BitFontCreator It is proprietary software. Thanks, but NO.
- joezydeco 6y agoJust giving an option for those that need a better alternative and don't want to spend valuable time on hand-editing fonts pixel by pixel. I mentioned that right up front. It's just another tool. It's not a lifestyle. I've done fonts by hand before and it sucks.
