- notsureaboutpg 6y agoAny word can be worked into any language if the speakers care. The truth the inventors and promoters of "Latinx" don't want to face is that Latinos, African-Americans, and almost every other minority is far far more intolerant of everything LGBTQQIA2etc. than liberal elites are. Pew polls in 2019 showed that 49% of Black Americans did not believe gay people should be allowed to be married. And the more liberal elites try to change people's day-to-day lives in intrusive ways to force them to accept LGBTetc. (like with awkward forced language) the more and more such groups will repel from accepting that. I've seen it myself in my own community.
- baryphonic 6y agoTruly astounding when the rallying cry to "end white supremacy" and "give representation to underprivileged/underrepresented groups" involves light-skinned Anglophone people dictating to darker-skinned Spanish-speaking people how the Spanish language should work, and in a way that betrays total ignorance of actually communicating in Spanish.
- loopz 6y agoSee the new series, The Long Story, it's hillarious and sad.
- baryphonic 6y agoWow, that's unbelievable! Much of the dialogue in the screenshots is extreme cringe. Do wokes ever interact with actual human beings, not to mention high school kids? And I still don't know how we're supposed to pronounce "Mx" like in the developer's handle. "Mix?" "Mux?" (Would a male be "Demux" in this scheme?) The saddest part are the glowing reviews in Vice Motherboard and The Verge.
- pseudalopex 6y agoMix or mux.[1] Easy to find. Men are still called Mr. [1] https://www.merriam-webster.com/words-at-play/mx-gender-neutral-title https://www.merriam-webster.com/words-at-play/mx-gender-neut...
- loopz 6y agoNot everyone is as prejudiced as to judge something from screenshots alone. You need to see at least one episode. It kicks left and right, and is funny, unless you take yourself too seriously.
- SpicyLemonZest 6y agoWhat's especially ridiculous is that they did - latine and latin@ (pronounced with whichever gender the speaker finds convenient) have a reasonably long history in contexts where people want to be conspicuously gender neutral. "Hispanic" too, although some speakers consider that to have a slightly different meaning. As far as I can tell, the new coinage of "Latinx" has no purpose except for signaling that you're one of the cool club. The vast majority of Latinos have never heard of it, and most of those who have don't like it.
- pseudalopex 6y agoMost Spanish speakers have never heard of Latine either. Hardly anyone likes Latin@. It looks stranger than the others. It's hard to search for. There are at least 5 different ways to pronounce it. Anglos use Latinx because it's the first gender neutral term spelled with all letters they learned. I think most people who call themselves Latinx are fine with Latine when they hear about it. So probably Latine will take over.
- SpicyLemonZest 6y agoThe point is that there's nothing much to take over, because very few people know the term Latinx and almost nobody identifies with it. It's only common in one specific subculture.
