FWIW, the Moderna vaccine was the first to apply for approval, and is expected to be approved "within a week" (https://www.businessinsider.com/moderna-vaccine-slaoui-likely-approved-by-end-of-week-2020-12?r=DE&IR=T https://www.businessinsider.com/moderna-vaccine-slaoui-likel...). A one-week difference on a 9-months science project doesn't quite sound significant enough for any conclusions as to the effect of taking government funding, let alone individual events connected with that funding.
