The first time I met him, he was picking up trash in the parking lot outside the Mill, and he offered to hold the door for me because I was carrying a stack of books. Ken Olsen made Digital a great place to work, until he was forced out. The company would not subsidize birth control with their health insurance, but would pay for a couple to have up to 3 IVF proceedures, which were 5 or 6 figures back in the day.
