Holmes Says Her Wealth Has No Place in Theranos Fraud Trial
- ggm 6y agoShe abused her wealth and privileged access to lobby. Id say her wealth is highly relevant
- hellotomyrars 6y agoRight, I can’t possibly see what bearing the the extravagant fruits of her labor (fraud) has to do with the act of committing it. I guess she just did it out of the kindness of her heart? What. Like I’m not even understand what the benefit of making that argument is, as far as building a case/persuading a jury goes. Yes if the prosecution leans in to it, it paints her as more of a cartoon villain, but still, it’s not like it’s hard to understand why people commit fraud in the first place (personal gain).

- AntiImperialist 6y agoI think the Holmes story is overblown. She was a media darling and doing TED talks and TV interviews. And all of a sudden she's the biggest fraudster since Charles Ponzi. I understand that some companies succeed and some fail, some entrepreneurs do well and others pivot to do something else. Hers was no different. What explains her story is that she must of pissed of certain people she shouldn't have... so they used all of the media and all of the political and legal power to take her down.
- tluyben2 6y agoHow do you reckon that 'hers was no different'? Deceiving people about R&D outcomes to fill your pockets is not (or at least should not be) business as usual and definitely it's not a matter of 'some companies succeed and some fail'.
- AntiImperialist 6y agoDo you think Steve Jobs was deceiving people with his reality distortion field? I'm sure a lot of people who knew him thought that and still do. He had a similar story where he got kicked out from his own company. Investors didn't like him either. I don't think she was deceiving anyone. She had a vision and really wanted it to work. She might have oversold the idea before it had come to fruition and dressed it up (and herself for the matter) to appear appealing to the investors and the public. If you've known any CEO-type person or marketing people, you know that's going on. So, why is every other CEO and marketing person "doing their job" and she's a fraud? Why did they create a spectacle with documentary and a media trial before anything was proven in the court? Now she has to say things her lawyer recommends to get out of it as easily as possible... and Bloomberg is here to tell us "Do you remember the fraudster? Do you know what she said, ya'll?" I mean, it's understandable if people don't understand how this whole thing works... but it's pretty ridiculous what's happening to her. I hope this gets sorted well in her favor and she finally gets to tell her side of the story.
