Yeah. The section that compares it to Vim seems to misunderstand that people actually _like_ the modal nature of Vim, and that it's one of its main advantages.

- isatty 6y agoAlso, when I think of minimal I think of nano or ed (I have not used ed but it still comes to mind). Vim is pretty complex out of the box if you think about it, and that’s what enables the tons of plugins that you get.
- Aeolun 6y agoHe correctly surmised that it’s hard to learn though. I’m 10 years in and it’s still a pain.
- m0zg 6y agoI can guess why this is. You're probably fighting it instead of embracing it, or perhaps have unrealistic expectations for yourself. Embrace it, and understand it's OK to not know every single thing. I doubt that's even possible for an average user.
- johncoltrane 6y ago:help user-manual is not hard and it won't take 10 years of your life.
- sime2009 6y agoBut there are also a lot of people who _don't_ like the modal nature of Vim too. Ox not being modal is then one of its main advantages over Vim in that case.
- m0zg 6y agoThose people aren't users of Vim. Users of Vim use it _because_ it's modal, not in spite of the fact. There's scarcely any other reason to use it.
- sime2009 6y agoThere are a lot more than just Vim fans who are reading that section of the readme. Either way, it is fair to clearly state where the project stands regarding the modal style interaction vis-à-vis Vim.
