Leaked extracts in yesterday's Washington Post describe how the operation caused "the most monumental non-nuclear explosion and fire ever seen from space" in the summer of 1982.
"In order to disrupt the Soviet gas supply, its hard currency earnings from the West, and the internal Russian economy, the pipeline software that was to run the pumps, turbines and valves was programmed to go haywire after a decent interval, to reset pump speeds and valve settings to produce pressures far beyond those acceptable to pipeline joints and welds," Mr Reed writes

- beambot 6y agoNot sure... Just remember the lore being reported. As with all things cloak & dagger, take it with a grain of salt.
- marcosdumay 6y agoI dunno. It's good to know that it's contested, but all the intelligence organs (from both sides) denying a hacking took place is how things always go. They denied that the Stuxnet was a cyberweapon too, for years after all the details were public known. That said, the argument that there wouldn't be a computer controlled pipeline in 1982 is kinda strong. If I were interested enough on the history, I'd start looking from there.
