Not totally related to dyslexia, but I had a severe stutter in English (my native language) as a child but have never once stuttered in Spanish (close-to-fluent for about 10 years of my life, though I am rusty now) or German (beginner, but I lived there for a while and spoke conversationally daily). This has always intrigued me because it feels like magic to me when I don’t stutter in foreign languages. The only explanation I have is that my stutter was possibly exacerbated by my public speaking anxiety as a child, something I grew out of rapidly while maintaining a bit of the stutter.
- eitland 6y agoI have a good friend who struggled with stuttering and also the r-sound until he moved across the country and started speaking the local dialect. He never struggled with it again after that it seems. Myself I couldn't see that our garbage bin was dark green or that my house was kind of green[0] until someone pointed it out. Now it seems impossible to miss for me, at least in daylight, but this fall I spoke to someone who was at my house and they was just as confused as I was. I'm still partially colorblind but some colors seems to be just a matter of having it pointed out once, or seing it in the right light or something. [0]: FTR, here's a photo of a house with the same color: https://byggebolig.no/eksterior-tak-ytterkledning-og-maling-ute/ny-farge-pa-gamalt-hus-onsker-forslag/msg390939 https://byggebolig.no/eksterior-tak-ytterkledning-og-maling-...

- GreeniFi 6y agoJust to say, I’m case you’ve never heard it before, but there’s a theory that humanity as a whole only started seeing blue in modern times. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.sciencealert.com/humans-didn-t-see-the-colour-blue-until-modern-times-evidence-science/amp https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.sciencealert.com/humans-did... There’s a sense that colour is a bit weird like that and your story about only seeing the green once it was pointed out to you reminded me of that.
- kadoban 6y agoThere's easy to find colorblindness tests online you can take. They can suffer a tad from color reproduction problems on monitors I think, but they still seem to give good results. You could take one if you're curious.
- m463 6y agoI very much enjoyed the movie "The King's Speech". (but I won't spoil the movie with details)
