Judith Butler on culture war, JK Rowling and living in “anti-intellectual times”
- raxxorrax 6y agoThe movement itself became anti-intellectual in my opinion, the discussion around it has been a total crash aside from that. There are exceptions, but I think everyone is pretty free to live their fanciest fantasies. > women who are not heterosexual are pathologized. I don't think so, even with all the jokes about lesbians. They still commit 100% of space crime, btw. Homosexuality will never be a literal norm because it isn't. But in westernized democracies it is just a matter of time until it is accepted. Policies might need modernization. That regards child support, tax breaks for couples, ... I think the actual problem for people engaged here is that there is little to fight for anymore with the result that advocates end up in some weird purity spiral.

I’d suggest, much like Butler does in the article, that transgender people are much more likely to face stigma or inequalities in life due to how their gender plays out compared to your average person. Activism that leads to improving such a situation strikes me as a concrete goal, so I have trouble understanding how you might think there’s “little to fight for”.
