Assistant AG Beth Williams on responsible encryption and lawful access
- raxxorrax 6y agoDespite what lawyers say, the behavior of government and other actors made it clear that encryption is always to be recommended. Responsible behavior here means supporting everyone around you to enable encryption for themselves. Government already made clear that its own rules don't apply, so I don't really see room for discussion around responsibility until the crimes of surveillance are cleared up and constitutionally deemed rights for privacy are restored. Neither Mrs. Williams, nor Mr. Barr seem to be interested in an honest discussion. It seems to be especially dishonest if national security is the argument brought forward while referencing instances of domestic crime. That people offer up their children for prostitution is horrific, but cannot be an argument here, even if prospects that lead to such behavior can indeed be relevant to it. > exponential increase in child exploitation statement devoid of facts and evidence. > warrant-proof forms of encryption Solve the issue of government spying and the discussion can begin yesterday. disclaimer: I haven't watched the video and just assumed the content is similar: https://www.justice.gov/opa/speech/assistant-attorney-general-beth-williams-delivers-remarks-national-association-attorney-0 https://www.justice.gov/opa/speech/assistant-attorney-genera...
