Absolutely ridiculous. It's like we're taking a step back from the progressive, colour blind world we once strived for every day. How this blatantly sexist and racist piece of writing can be published without fatal backlash from every thinking person is beyond me.
- konjin 6y agoJust apply a label to yourself that is progressive but ultimately equal to whatever non-progressive orientation you have. I'm a trans lesbian with no body dysphoria. It's the Church of Satan for the new millennium.
- raxxorrax 6y agoThe church of satan was at least edgy and made some good points through abrahamic satire and didn't champion racial quotas. That was formerly restricted to completely distinct political groups that were completely irrelevant until recently...
- konjin 6y agoWait until I introduce you to transrace theory. Blobology [1] applied to black and white brains. It is just running sed on the papers that talk about differences in male and female brains as a biological basis for being transgendered with r/male/white/g;r/female/black/g. Sounds like something out of eugenics 101 when you start talking about racial brain structures instead of gendered brain structures. - AstralStorm 6y agoExcept race is not directly affected by well known and mostly well described hormones during and after development. And furthermore, that has a big effect size, though we do not know how big exactly as the experiments to do find out are considered by many to be inhumane (on animals) or are even outright human experimentation. If you had a paper linking say melanin to immune system based on race, that's perfectly valid. There are known racial differences in drug metabolism and some signaling molecules with decent effect size as well. None of this implies valuation or judgement. Without that, it's a generic difference plain and simple.
- konjin 6y agoThe category of race in the US means 'too dark to pass for smart' according to Joe Biden anyway. That it used to include Italians not too long ago should tell you all you need to know about its scientific basis. Now if you want to talk about the effects of haplogroup R-M343 on sickle cell anemia by all means. The point is that genes do not map onto skin color and gender does not map onto fMRI scans.
- s9w 6y agoNot sure I parse that correctly, but is that supposed to mean there are no brain differences between people of different race or gender?
- konjin 6y agoRace is an arbitrary grouping no more meaningful than organizing people by earlobe shape. Gender is meaningless. Sex is biological, simple and since the invention of contraception unimportant. Everything else is a taxonomy for people who want original sin but don't want to call themselves Christian.
- Magodo 6y agoCan you really blame the academy though? They've been hammered pretty much non stop by comedians and popular media that they're not inclusive enough with absolutely no one defending them probably in fear of getting canceled. And once this happens, everybody throws their hands up and says no that's not really what we wanted. The real issue here is that everybody's got a mouth these days...
- deathgrips 6y ago>Can you really blame the academy though? Yes... Don't give in to people who want to cheapen awards for political points. Let talented diverse crews win on the merits of their art.
- qtplatypus 6y agoThe awards where always about political points. It’s just a way for the MPAA to look legitimate. Further more it has never been about the merits of their art. Otherwise Boss Baby would never have got a nomination.
- qtplatypus 6y agoBecause we haven’t gotten to being a colour blind world yet. The Oscars have a long history of being biased towards white people. What is worse since winning a Oscar allows you to vote on the Oscars that bias has been perpetrated.
