Endangered Language Research and the Moral Depravity of Ethics Protocols [pdf]
- raxxorrax 6y agoVery interesting read and I think this "academic" culture is not only present in the US but is pretty damaging overall. In contemporary culture the most egregious analogy in my opinion is "black face". If you believe that it is unethical to paint your face black, I don't think you have thought about it too much. But even if you know the context of why it can be seen as offensive, because of a culturally now completely irrelevant show in the United States, it still makes no sense to enforce a global ban on it. I have seen Europeans getting penalized for it because somewhere on the path someone dropped their mind. It is a sign of courtesy to not use it that if you believe that it could bring pain to people, but there is a limit to courtesy. At some point it is senseless submission to irrationality. And that limit is quickly reached if people begin to prosecute others for alleged ethical violations, especially since some abuse for some infantile power play.
