IMO “good working ethic” is only about doing your work and doing it well. It doesn’t mean anything about working continuously for 8 hours.

- whateveracct 6y ago100%. Don't let internalized capitalist guilt make you give your employer free labor. Working more for no tangible benefit is just deadweight loss on your end. EDIT: Thanks for the downvote, anonymous capitalist HN stooge. pg, is that you??
- burfog 6y agoBeing very capitalist, I don't give my employer free labor. I make my employer pay. Capitalism is great for me.
- whateveracct 6y agoI more meant capitalist as in "those who control capital" rather than "those who participate in capitalism"
- claudiawerner 6y agoIf you're employed by someone else, you're probably not a capitalist, as in, employer of variable capital.
- imtringued 6y agoIf you only work hard enough to receive your salary then you can't ask for a raise. If there is surplus between how much value you generate and how much you are being paid that's an opportunity to switch employers and collect the surplus.
- whateveracct 6y agoAt many salaried companies, comp is banded and stepwise. There's a bar for you to reach that puts you on the path to promotion or a raise. So if you work more than that, that's loss. It's silly to say that you can work super hard always collect the surplus. The market isn't _that_ efficient.
