  MIT has its own publisher initiative that suits modern science - online, interactive, and open-source. PubPub[1][2] is closer to something like Authorea[3] and Overleaf[4]. It also includes the peer-reviewing features. UC just should have joined the project instead of wasting money with Springer. They seem lack the brave of the MIT management.
