  Except that ML and AI aren't new fields at all - they are over 60 years old and predate CS education by decades. CNN, LSTM, and RNN are just special techniques in a much broader field that has been around for a long time. Thinking ML/AI is new is exactly equivalent to thinking that electric cars are new...

    Linear regression, correlation and general statistical minimisation approaches are almost a century old. The only real difference is that computer scientists are cool and have hip new terms (and money), while statisticians are boring and uncool.
