Is there anything that's good about patents on software?
- amelius 6y agoThe only thing that's good it is that it makes the law less arbitrary. E.g. why should my friends who are in mechanical engineering be allowed patents while I am not? But other than that, there's not much good about it.
- tinus_hn 6y agoSoftware patents could be reasonable if they weren’t about trivialities and their validity period was adapted to the pace of technology. But here we are, the mp3 format which really is obsolete just lost its patent protection. And that’s the exception where the patented material still holds at least some value after the patents expire.
