The Dystopian, Post-Lockdown World of Wuhan
- monster_group 6y agoReminds me of the Black Mirror episode "Nosedive" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nosedive_(Black_Mirror) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nosedive_(Black_Mirror)
- gcatalfamo 6y agoPaywall
- kencausey 6y agoFor those with the capability: the paywall does not apply pre-HTML.
- gcatalfamo 6y agoSome people read HN from their phones.
- kencausey 6y agoGood point, but μMatrix is available for Android Firefox at least.
- yostrovs 6y agoNo one wants to use public transport in Wuhan, but cars are selling like before the pandemic. I wonder what New Yorkers will do with fear of subways. There's no space to park already.
- im3w1l 6y agoE-bikes and similar
- yostrovs 6y agoIncluding in the winter and across boros? What if you're 65, live in the Bronx and work on Wall Street?
- im3w1l 6y agoCorona may have blown over by winter.
- malandrew 6y agoYes, including winter and across boros. People in Harbin in China and other northern Chinese cities colder than NYC, commute by bike in winter no problem. Here in the US, there is a sizeable portion of people that commute by bike in the winter in Minneapolis.
- yostrovs 6y agoAnyone above 40?
- D_Alex 6y agoMust-read article for people in charge of "re-opening" of Europe and US states! The extent of the measures taken to prevent further infections and the re-emergence of the epidemic are truly eye-opening.
- SpicyLemonZest 6y agoAgreed. Some officials seem to still have the idea that we can get to zero infections by just following Wuhan's example, and they need to quickly realize that was never a real option in a free society.
- ardy42 6y agoThis video from mid-March by a Japanese expat in Nanjing was pretty interesting. He walks you through many of the post "opening up" practices in place in Nanjing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfsdJGj3-jM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfsdJGj3-jM: > Coronavirus: From 93 infected to 0, what did this Chinese City do to contain the virus?
