I haven't heard this theory before - Twitter started off with SMS, so wouldn't it increase your SMS usage? Also in my experience by the time Twitter started, lots of people - especially techie people that would have been early adopters - had unlimited texting plans. They definitely didn't have unlimited data plans by the time Twitter was web-centric.
