I did the exact same. I used to be a Godaddy customer and had a bunch of domains with them. One day I cancelled some of them, but when I did this it didn't auto-cancel the associated services, as I expected, so they continued to charge me for whois guard, and some other services for domains I no longer owned after they expired. Godaddy are thieves. I'll never use them again.
