Two big names are Target and Standard Chartered. Another trend (that I don't particularly like) is all the blockchain startups using Haskell.

- exdsq 7y agoOut of interest, why not? I'm slightly biased on this point.
- kick 7y agoYou must know how bad of a reputation cryptocurrencies have at this point, right? They aren't exactly loved, especially around these parts. Cardano (which I'm assuming is what IOHK works on) may be different, it might not be, but either way it has an uphill climb to be recognized as anything better than, well... https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=true&query=cryptocurrencies%20destroy%20env&sort=byPopularity&type=comment https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=true&que... https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=true&query=cryptocurrencies%20scam&sort=byPopularity&type=comment https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=true&que... (Or really, just combine "cryptocurrency" or "cryptocurrencies" with any negative word and throw it into search and you'll see the point.) All cryptocurrency has a serious reputation problem right now, and it's probably not going to go away for the considerable future.
- kick 7y agoHaskellers are in a rough spot, then, aren't they? All of the pretension that comes with knowing one of the functional languages that has a community that pretends to know math, and they end up working retail. Ow. Joking diss aside, though, I definitely feel for people who love languages with limited reach. (Also, I think GitHub hired a few people explicitly for Haskell, which is worth mentioning because Microsoft is vaguely more reputable than most of the companies listed in this thread.)
- yakshaving_jgt 7y agoThat’s not what the word “pretension” means.
- kick 7y agohttps://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/pretension https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/pretensi... the act of trying to appear or sound more important or clever than you are Some irony in your comment. I meant exactly what was said.
- yakshaving_jgt 7y agoSorry, you are right. I had confused this for the word "pretence".
- kick 7y agoIt's all groovy! We all confuse words sometimes, English overloads many of them pretty heavily.
- seanmcdirmid 7y agoDoes anyone at Target use Haskell besides Conal Elliott?
