Poll: Superbowl audience ...
I've heard about this "Superb Owl" thing, so I thought I'd ask about the HN crowd. Adjust for future/past tense as appropriate. If you're interested in seeing a result, it might be necessary to upvote the item. Sorry.
- detst 16y agoAt least for my curiosity, Canada should have an option or be included with the USA option. I suspect many of the "I'm not in the USA and I'm watching the S.B." would be Canada but I'd be interested in the breakdown. I've seen a fair amount of activity on Twitter from those outside NA that seem genuinely interested and knowledgeable.
- BigCanOfTuna 16y agoHow about "I'm in North America" rather than having Canada "included with USA". Sorry for being picky.
- noahc 16y agoI voted for "I'm in the USA and I'm watching the S.B" But, more accurately, I have the SB on the TV, but I only look up when they start cheering really loud so I can watch the replay.
- RK 16y agoI think last year I just took a nap on the couch and let the touchdowns wake me up.
- lkrubner 16y agoI do not own a television, nor do I know many people who have televisions, so I'm not sure where I would watch. I guess a sports bar, that is where some of my friends go to watch soccer games. But I lack the interest.
- biot 16y agoHave you ever been interviewed by The Onion? :)
- natmaster 16y agoSample bias. How many people are surfing HN at the same time as watching tv.
- ortusdux 16y agoI agree. I have no doubt that I am a few σ from the norm: http://i.imgur.com/yIfoY.jpg http://i.imgur.com/yIfoY.jpg Dual screen, tv tuner, espresso, coors light, and an audio book.
- xenophanes 16y agoA lot are. But how many are surfing HN while out for a run? TV watching is a place u have internet access.
- CoachRufus87 16y agoMe
- protomyth 16y agoPlease tell me we are not going to do the "sports are stupid" or the "popular things are stupid" thing? I wish I could watch it, but I have no TV, lousy connectivity, and I can't get to a sports bar.
- ortusdux 16y agoI don't see HN as a hipster hangout... In all seriousness, I picked up a digital tuner a few years back for about 40$ on woot. It is shocking the picture quality that can be picked up with a 3' antenna. Check out this rather impressive signal map to see if its a worthwhile investment: http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=90 http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=90
- protomyth 16y agoI hoping it won't be. I'm in a basement, and currently typing on a device that is not even getting edge. I am in the traveling phase of life, and weather kept me from traveling this weekend.
- PebblesRox 16y agoYou need an option for "started to watch but got bored in between commercials and found iPod in pocket."
- j_baker 16y agoI have to admit that things are a bit different in San Francisco than they were in Texas. I almost wasn't aware that the Super Bowl was today. And not a single person has asked me what team I'm rooting for. In Texas when I told people that I really am not a football fan, people would look at me like I'm an alien who was speaking some bizarre language they didn't understand. And I'm surprised there isn't an "I'm watching it for the commercials" option. :-)
- JonnieCache 16y ago>Superb Owl That is brilliant. Is there a linguistic term for this game? Sort of like reverse portmanteaus. EDIT: It's a real owl! Unfortunately it is actually a butterfly http://www.neotropicalbutterflies.com/Site%20Revision/Pages/Nymphalidae_Pages/Brassolinae/Owl_Pages/Caligo_superbus.html http://www.neotropicalbutterflies.com/Site%20Revision/Pages/...
- andrewljohnson 16y agoI'm in the U.S., flagging this karma-whoring post.
- ggordan 16y agoI'm from the UK and the BBC has live coverage. I thought I'd sit down and watch, even though I don't understand the game, because I heard the ads during the Superbowl are great. I tried to get into it but found myself giving up 15 minutes in. The wait for the ads was too long, so I'm looking at them on Youtube as they come.
