Vertical farming is about to explode as an industry. Any discussion of planet-wise nutrition is silly without acknowledging the enormous effect it will have.
What feeding X0e9 people requires is energy.
- rhacker 7y agoVerticle farming in controlled environments where pesticides are not even needed because, guess what, no pests are introduced.
- nradov 7y agoVertical farming will never explode because even after accounting for transportation costs it will still be cheaper to grow staple crops in open fields with direct sunlight. Only high value specialty produce makes sense for vertical farming. Even increases in solar panel efficiency and artificial lighting won't significantly change that equation.
- manicdee 7y agoVertical farming will never be as efficient as open fields farming. Its claim to fame is quality control and the ability to grow crops year-round by spending more energy.
