- shrimp_emoji 7y agoYesterday, I realized I'd forgotten how to count in binary or hex. I was reminded of that by the realization that I'd forgotten how to manually convert between binary and hexadecimal strings in C. I'm still scared. But, above all, I want to stop doing things in C.
- rgoulter 7y agoRight. But while I think the important point is about abstractions, it's still valuable to understand-about (even if not "remember in detail how to manipulate") the next lower level abstraction. Partly this is to fix things when the higher abstraction breaks. But TFA's point is to manipulate the system without bringing in the cost of the higher abstraction.
