Robots That Learn to Use Improvised Tools
- amelius 8y agoSounds a bit ambitious. Shouldn't we first build a robot that can learn to reliable pick up objects of arbitrary shape? E.g. pick up LEGO bricks from a pile and stack them according to a plan.
- antpls 8y agoReliably picking up object is a specific task that might be solved at the material/physic level, for example : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7l-87r4oOY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7l-87r4oOY which doesn't use fingers at all. Planning using previously unseen object to interact with other previously unseen objects in the environnement to perform a general task is not something we can solve with new types of hardware (at least for now)
- seandougall 8y agoI’d settle for a robot that could pick up LEGO bricks and just drop them in a box. It’d have a lifetime of employment in my living room.

- gibolt 8y agoThe past year has had a ton of papers that center around unsupervised 'creativty'. I'd say this solidly falls into that category. Semi-related note, if you don't already watch Two Minute Papers, start now for great summaries of usually AI work. https://www.youtube.com/user/keeroyz https://www.youtube.com/user/keeroyz
- jamesb93 8y agoGot any papers? I'm interested in unsupervised creativity.
- hinkley 8y agoIt’s all fun and games until the robots fashion a shiv.
