That "award" ceremony video is both surreal and ridiculously cringe-inducing at the same time. It wouldn't surprise me if he actually felt like he had "achieved" something when he gave himself that award, either.
It was like you were watching his fantasy of what people would say about him if he was a productive member of society instead of a criminal and fraud.
- qqqwerty 8y agoFWIW, this is only marginally worse than your standard 'industry award' in that he had the nerve to give it to himself. Pretty much every industry has a boatload of meaningless awards. It is done largely for marketing and for 'social engineering'[1]. It is cheap (both in cost and tact) but effective. [1] Curries favor with the awardees, creates an 'in group' etc...
- wallace_f 8y agoFeynman spoke at length on the shallowness of awards. >epaulets, uniform, position: it has nothing to do with something intrinsic of that person.
- 908087 8y agoRight, but at least those industry "awards" are usually just a room full of jackasses cross-congratulating themselves as a form of awkward mutual masturbation. This one is a lone scam artist in a room full of what I can only assume to be paid actors (like the ones at superbowl half time shows). Another thing that struck me was the awkward "big guy" speech. It was like he instructed her to really drive that point home. Makes you wonder what kind of inadequacies he's trying to overcompensate for. If you look through their other videos he even stumbles through some kind of meandering self-congratulatory acceptance speech. It's even more painful to watch than the dead-eyed woman announcing his "achievement" and telling everyone what a "big boy" he is.

- Scoundreller 8y agoPlacebos work even when you tell people they’re placebos. I’m sure he went to bed proud pulling all that off. It still looks like a lot of work.
