This author desperately needs to read Eric Hoffer’s The True Believer. It completely explains this phenomenon of secular dogmatism (and more) in fewer words.
Incidentally, another variety of secular dogmatic is the person who thinks science is equivalent to truth.
Hoffer: “The opposite of the religious fanatic is not the fanatical atheist but the gentle cynic who cares not whether there is a God or not. The atheist is a religious person. He believes in atheism as though it were a new religion”
- AstralStorm 8y agoWhich is extra incongruous as science is a process not a state. As opposed to current state of art or knowledge. The view that only the results of current iteration of scientific process are true negates the whole process! The process will change as it has in the past a few times, driven by results in the utilitarian sense.
