My family doesn’t know this, but I have a solid retirement plan. It’s not really a retirement plan in the traditional sense, because I won’t be able to retire from the workforce and enjoy the spoils no matter how hard I try. However, when I’m no longer able to work for money, I’ll pull out my gun and put a bullet in my head. I’m at peace with the idea because it leaves me free to raise my child in the best way possible. What happens to me after is unimportant.
- joshuahughes 8y agoMy wife has a friend whose husband ended his own life that way. The family members who found him not only lost a loved one, but they also have the horrific images of his self-mutilation seered into their memory. I’d really urge you to think about that aspect...
- sigfubar 8y agoYes, that does sound horrible, but I’m not what one would call a suicidal person acting out of desperation. I’m also not an idiot. When the time comes, no one will be subjected to horrific images.
- hnuser1234 8y agoTo avoid the risk of failure and rendering yourself a disfigured invalid, you should acquire helium or nitrogen from a welding shop to do the deed by inert gas asphyxiation. You would also need a cheap regulator to control the flow (available from most hardware stores), a tube to direct the flow, and a plastic bag to contain the gas while you breathe it. Inert gas asphyxiation is painless -- it's just like falling asleep. Helium and Nitrogen are not only chemically inert but also physiologically inert. They have no taste or odor and do not trigger the hypercapnic response as happens with suffocation or CO/CO2 poisoning. Another advantage is this leaves your body intact and presentable for your survivors.
- apta 8y agoWhat a disgusting piece of "advice" to give to someone.
- hnuser1234 8y agoEveryone has the right to end his life when he sees fit. Sharing knowledge of how to do so safely is the opposite of disgusting. To encounter someone who intends to end his life in a risky manner that could lead to lifelong disability and extraneous trauma for his loved ones and not share knowledge of a safer and more certain method is what would be disgusting.
- simonsarris 8y agoPart of raising your child in the best way possible is raising your grand-children.
- cvshane 8y agoI get that you're trying to do an unselfish thing here, but I worry that it's going to harm your family more than you expect. Once your kids are 'raised' they're still going to want you to be around as a solid support, even in your 'unproductive' years. I'm 35 right now, and if my parents (~65) ever did this to me 'for my benefit' I'd be so mad at them. You are important your entire life.
- 1123581321 8y agoThat is an awful, selfish plan. It is not selfless or solid. You are worth more than any amount of money. Please reconsider.
