- Ope191 8y agoAgree. Most folks, especially outside of tech circles fail to realize the exponential strides Firefox has made in terms of being a robust competitor to Chrome.
- p49k 8y agoI recently switched to Firefox Quantum and am really, really trying to love it because I want Mozilla to succeed, but it’s still infuriatingly slow on Mac.
- stjohnswarts 8y agoI have read about a problem on some mac laptops where turning off the hardware acceleration for rendering leads to significant increases in responsiveness. Turn that off under settings and see what happens.
- p49k 8y agoTried changing that and have been browsing for 30-40 minutes, doesn't seem to help at all, sadly.
- WebDanube 8y agoAndroid user here. Firefox Quantum has been my main driver since dethroning Chromium-based 'Brave' last November, although the interface looks super dated and clunky. Aside from the fact that the main browser has entered into what Mozilla calls 'Maintenance mode,' so there aren't any new features getting integrated. That said, I'm super excited for 'Fenix' browser which should be out sometime next year. Hope Fenix gives Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers some robust competition and loosens their stranglehold on the browser market. - raxxorrax 8y ago> although the interface looks super dated and clunky optics is certainly subjective but I think this is especially funny. I use both Chrome and FF for testing purposes and often use different user accounts for various services which I separate by browser. I use different color schemes for both to be able to quickly determine what browser I am currently using. Yes, the tabs look different and you can always take a closer look at the menues, but honestly, they basically look the same.
- sciurus 8y agoI don't think we refer to Firefox on Android as "Quantum" yet; for miscellaneous technical reasons it doesn't have some of what made Quantum great on desktop. Part of the goal of Fenix is to "bring quantum to android", as I understand it. (Disclosure: I work for Mozilla, but not on the browser)
- WebDanube 8y ago>I don't think we refer to Firefox on Android as "Quantum" yet My apologies. My understanding was that Firefox, regardless of platform, goes by the name 'Quantum' from v57.0 and up. Thanks for clarifying.
- roryrjb 8y agoI tried Firefox when the Quantum update first came out (this is on Linux) and it was still slow despite all the fanfare, but now at v63 it is really usable for me and I'm gradually switching over. (Update: I realise v64 just came out but it's not available yet in my package manager, here's hoping for even greater performance!).
- Yoric 8y agoProbably https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1429522 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1429522 . I'm eagerly waiting for it to be resolved.
- 33degrees 8y agoStrange, I just started using it again and I'm finding it a lot faster than Chrome
- dana321 8y agoCompared to Safari, any other browser is slow on a mac.
- mrleinad 8y agoExactly what happened to me. I'm still wary of coming back...
