The Anchor Tenant
- avinium 8y agoI chanced upon the Google office during my first trip to NYC a few weeks ago. I was surprised that it was so enormous - do they actually occupy the whole thing? It's basically an entire block.
- Illniyar 8y agoDoesn't facebook have a big enough presence in NYC to be considered an Anchor Tenant?
- xapata 8y agoHow long have they been there?
- adventured 8y agoQuestionable in terms of numbers right now. At the end of 2017 Facebook still only had about 25,000 global employees. Amazon is talking about 25,000 employees just in each of these HQ2 locations. Assuming Facebook gradually becomes obese like all large tech companies do, I'd expect them to begin rapidly bloating up in the coming years (they appear to be on the way now, given the acceleration of adding all manner of staff even while their sales growth plunges).
- Eridrus 8y agoFacebook has about a thousand people in NYC afaik?
- Illniyar 8y agoI've just found this link: https://techcrunch.com/2017/05/21/examining-the-nyc-footprints-of-global-tech-titans/ https://techcrunch.com/2017/05/21/examining-the-nyc-footprin... frankly if amazon actually opens a 25,000 employee HQ in NYC, it would much more an Anchor Tenant then google ever was.
- wrong_variable 8y agoThe same shareholders invested in NYC real estate are also big FANG investors ( namely top 20% of Americans ). Assets gets correlated over time due to fewer hands having larger slice of the pie. Having a market economy with extremely high inequality leads to the same type of results as you would expect from Stalin's 5 year plans. It makes the financial system fragile and brings a screeching halt to new business formation.
