There are many reasons to chose Mac or Windows. I would expect an article about why someone switched to be more nuanced than price.
I mean price is a valid reason too, but not very insightful.
- puranjay 8y agoI used to balk at the Macbook price. Then I realized I spent nearly 10 hours a day on my laptop, that it was the source of my livelihood, and that I'd lost hours in frustration at the Windows experience. Price makes sense as a complaint for most people, but for professionals whose job depends on their tools, I'd say it is worth it to splurge for a better experience.
- copperx 8y agoOf price is the only reason, then it would make sense to build a Hackintosh. It is not a lot of work if you pick the parts correctly from the beginning. Price is not the only factor for me, so I built a custom Linux desktop. It is much more ergonomic than a Mac for software development.
- lmilcin 8y agoI agree, price is very subjective. When your machine is your main work tool and you are paid reasonably well the cost of it becomes pretty much insignificant. What is important is how well it suits your needs. I had some stability problems with my laptop and I just bought new one and gave the old one away to family because the financial loss it was causing me was on the order of the price of new one. I would prefer to listen to what kind of problems the author had that would prompt him to switch to Windows and how it affected his life/work positively instead of just complaining that the price is too high.
